According to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Mets and Twins have had trade discussions revolving around starter Noah Syndergaard.

It was reported yesterday by multiple outlets that the Mets are certainly willing to trade Syndergaard if they get what they believe is fair value. It was also reported that if the Mets trade Syndergaard that they would then try to extend fellow starter Zack Wheeler.

Wheeler is scheduled to be a free agent following the season while Syndergaard is under team control through the 2021 season. Syndergaard is 7-5 this season with a 4.33 ERA and 3.64 FIP over 126.2 innings.

Neal reports that the Mets are eyeing the Twins two best prospects, outfielder Alex Kirilloff and shortstop Royce Lewis.

The 21-year-old Kirilloff is currently ranked at the No. 17 prospect in MLB according to Baseball America and No. 11 per MLB Pipeline. The left-handed hitter was the Twins first round pick in 2016.

Lewis, 20, has struggled this year offensively though he’s still ranked as the No. 21 prospect in baseball according to BA and FanGraphs has him at No. 2.

The Twins are looking to add multiple pitchers before the July 31 deadline and preferably controllable arms like Syndergaard. Baseball Americe released their farm system rankings on Thursday with the Twins coming in at No. 7.
