Trea Turner is back in the National League East.

The shortstop signed an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. He has a full no trade clause.

Turner, 29, will now presumably finish his career as a Phillie. A two-time All-Star, Silver Slugger, and World Series Champion is back in the NL East after being traded away in 2021.

Turner joins the Phillies after they made an unexpected run to the World Series last season. He’ll be the final piece to their puzzle after they lost to the Houston Astros.

Turner spend the first six and a half seasons with the Washington Nationals, winning the World Series with them in 2019. Turner was traded along with Max Scherzer to the Dodgers, midway through the 2021 season. Turner didn’t let the lights of Los Angeles faze him.

In a season and a half with the Dodgers, he hit .307/.353/.490 with 31 home runs, 128 RBIs, 56 doubles, and 38 stolen bases.

Turner has been a little less than his average against the Mets in his career. He’s played in 86 games against the Mets hitting .290/.344/.467 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. He also has 34 stolen bases against them.

The Mets and Phillies had a one-sided rivalry in 2022. The Mets went 14-5 against Philadelphia this season. This should tighten the gap but both teams made their splashes in free agency with the Mets adding Justin Verlander.

Turner should push the Mets to continue to spend and break payroll records as the NL East is a three-horse race between these two and the Atlanta Braves.
