Mets outfield prospect Travis Taijeron received the organization’s John J. Murphy Award, given annually to the team’s top rookie in major league spring training camp.

Taijeron batted .368 with a .432 OBP and .658 slugging percentage for the Mets with two home runs and team-high 11 RBIs in 38 at-bats.

Last year, Taijeron displayed the power scouts expected of him when he was drafted by the Mets in the 18th round in 2011.

The right-handed slugger hit a career-high 25 home runs for Triple-A Las Vegas and batted .274 with 22 doubles and 71 RBI. He led the Mets farm system with a .536 slugging percentage and .929 OPS.

Taijeron, 27, impressed a lot of people in Mets camp and could be called upon in case of injuries to provide a power bat off the bench for the Mets in 2016.
