travis d'Arnaud

New York Mets catcher, Travis d’Arnaud has been lighting up the baseball since returning from the disabled list. At a time when this team needed some added punch to it’s lineup, d’Arnaud has helped provide that.

With another great night at the plate last night, he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He now has five RBI in his last eight games and has been on absolute fire.  His two-run single was the difference maker for the Mets in their 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs, Saturday night.

“We were just looking for a pitch to handle and try to put a good swing on it,” d’Arnaud said. “Fortunately, I was able to find a hole and two runs were able to score.” (NY Post)

He has been red hot since coming off the disabled list on June 21. He is 10-for-32 with five RBIs, providing the Mets with a key piece in what had been an offensive drought for this team. It is also only a matter of time before d’Arnaud is moved up from the eighth spot in the lineup as manager, Terry Collins referenced prior to Saturday’s victory.

“We’re hoping to move him up. We want to get him some more at-bats [in the eighth spot in the lineup],” Collins said. “He’s swinging better, that’s the main thing.”

Prior to being placed on the disabled list and missing 50 games with a right rotator cuff strain, he had been struggling mightily at the plate. He was hitting to a .196/.288/.261 slash line. Upon his return to the Mets, he has improved those numbers significantly. D’Arnaud’s current slash stands at .244/.306/.282.

Travis has always been a big piece of this offense and getting him back has been big to the team’s recent success. It will be interesting to see where Collins will look to move him up to in the lineup.
