The New York Mets (43-37) defeated the Chicago Cubs (51-29) by a score of 4-3 tonight at Citi Field.

Offense:

The Mets got off to a quick start against Cubs ace Jake Arrieta in the first inning as Neil Walker launched his 15th homer of the year to right.

After Bartolo Colon yielded a two-run home run to Anthony Rizzo in the fourth, the Mets answered right back in the bottom half of the frame when Travis d’Arnaud scored two runs with a dunker to center field.

This would prove to be enough for the Mets, as the pitching shut down the Cubs for the rest of the night.

Pitching:

Bartolo Colon toed the rubber for the Mets this evening, and tossed six solid innings, allowing just two runs on the aforementioned Anthony Rizzo home run, and also struck out five.

Erik Goeddel relieved Colon in the seventh and got two outs, but also yielded a home run to Ben Zobrist to cut the Mets lead to 4-3.

Jerry Blevins attempted to finish off the inning, but failed to record an out, so Addison Reed was called upon to get four outs, and luckily finished off the seventh as the third pitcher of the frame.

Jeurys Familia came on to pitch the ninth inning, and was able to keep the Cubs off the board, and in the process, recorded his 28th save of the campaign.

On deck:

The Mets will look for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at Citi Field, with Noah Syndergaard (8-3, 2.49 ERA) taking on Jon Lester (9-3, 2.03 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
