The Mets have traded Tommy Pham to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to SNY’s Andy Martino. Joel Sherman says the Mets get Jeremy Rodriguez, a 17-year-old shortstop prospect whom the D’backs paid $1.25 million as an international free agent earlier this year.

The Athletic’s Tim Britton said the Mets and D’backs are splitting the about $1.7 million Pham is owed the rest of the way.

The 35-year-old outfielder has had a resurgent year with the Mets, slashing .268/.348/.472/.820. He’s actually hitting better against right-handers than he is against lefties this season after he was signed for $5 million with the intention of being a fourth outfielder/platoon player.

Just before the season started, Pham updated his specialty contacts that help his vision affected by keratoconus. As he adjusted at the start of the season, Pham had been hitting the ball hard without results to show for it. But that changed starting at the beginning of May. He has an .863 with 25 extra-base hits over 211 plate appearances since then, and his hard-hit rates have sustained around the top 10 to 15 percent of the league.

Pham joins Mark Canha, Max Scherzer, Eduardo Escobar, Justin Verlander, and David Robertson in being traded away from the 2023 team.
