The New York Mets placed Tomas Nido on the seven-day IL because he is now in concussion protocol, as reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com confirmed the news, reporting that Nido has been placed on the seven-day IL for head injuries, with a concussion.

Nido, 25, got hit in the back of the head on a Josh Donaldson swing in the sixth inning. He remained in the game for the remainder of the inning before getting replaced by Wilson Ramos in the top of the seventh inning.

On the year, Nido is hitting .207/.240/.328 with three home runs and 13 RBI to give himself a 51 OPS+ and -0.5 bWAR. Defensively, he ranks 20th in all of baseball in FRAA (Fielding Runs Above Average) at 4.2. He was also the preferred catcher for Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard at points this season.

With Nido out, Rene Rivera has been selected from Triple-A Syracuse to temporarily replace him, as Nightengale also reported and DiComo confirmed.

Rivera, 36, has had a good season in Syracuse, hitting .254/.319/.501 with 25 home runs and 75 RBI on the year. Syndergaard was a fan of throwing to him in both 2016 and 2017 when he was on the Mets active roster last.
