The Mets desperately needed a win, and Todd Frazier made that happen last night in Queens. Yes, Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman were phenomenal. But if it weren’t for Frazier, the Mets would not have won this game.

With a runner on with two outs in the 5th inning, Frazier parked the fourth-straight slider he got from Luis Severino into the left field seats to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. That’s all the Mets would need as Lugo, Gsellman, and Anthony Swarzak shut out the Yankees — Something no other team has been able to do so far in 2018.

“One of those sliders that he threw just hung up a little bit longer, and with him, he’s dominant, so when you get a pitch like that you have to drive it,” Frazier said following the 2-0 win. “I got lucky, and I did my job. We needed that one, that was a big one.”

Frazier also made a great play to end the game, as with a runner on first and one out, Gary Sanchez scorched a screaming line drive to him at third base. He snagged it and roped it to first to double off Greg Bird and end the ballgame.

When he was activated from the disabled list on June 6th, the Mets were in the middle of the losing streak that ended last night. Everyone knew Frazier would have an impact upon his return, more so in the clubhouse than on the field. He knew it too.

“I am going to get these guys going, don’t you worry about that,” he said. “And if they are not going to get going then we have to find somebody else, but they are going to be excited to play against these Yankees coming up, no doubt about it.”

“The Toddfather” is hitting .239/.344/.433 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs so far in the first year of a two-year, team-friendly contract with the Mets worth $8 million this season and $9 million in 2019.

He has homered in back-to-back games for the first time as a Met and first  time since September 14-16, 2017 with the Yankees. This is the third of his seven home runs this season that has given the Mets the lead, and the two RBI’a make it nine go-ahead RBI’s on the season, most on the team.

The Mets were only able to win one game against the Yankees, but Frazier did his part. He went 4-for-12 in the three-game series, hitting a home run in both the second and third games. The Mets struggles aren’t over, as without that one swing by Frazier, the Mets had zero runs. Having his bat back in the lineup is huge, but having his voice back in the clubhouse is even better.
