Mets fans, sports media, and anyone who enjoys sports – today is about Mike Piazza. Let’s not take that away from him.

Everyone has been talking about the cheating scandal since punishment was announced on Monday. During these past few days, two managers involved in the scandal, AJ Hinch and Alex Cora, have been fired by their organizations. Is Carlos Beltran next? He shouldn’t be. It’s absurd that he was the only player named. But I’m going to stop right there because today isn’t about that – it’s about Piazza.

This week should have been a buzz of excitement for the Mets and their fans with this new naming of the street after our Hall of Fame catcher. It is exciting that they’re doing this (and not waiting five decades to do so). Piazza deserves this and more. But what he doesn’t deserve is for the attention from this honor to be taken away. He does not deserve to be asked while down in Port St. Lucie to comment on the situation happening with Beltran. He does not deserve to have this day be paired with an announcement from the Mets as to what they are going to do.

Today should simply be about Piazza and how great it is that they are changing the address of the Mets Spring Training home.

Piazza has been a regular at Spring Training, helping out the team and being there for support. Changing the address of the facility to honor him is fitting, worthwhile, and a great move. Let’s all talk about that today – how Piazza deserves this.
