New York Mets minor league outfielder Tim Tebow told reporters he intends to return to the organization and continue his baseball career in 2018.

“For me, [2018] will be about training and getting better, and then trying to show up at Spring Training and being ready to go,” Tebow said to Bill Whitehead of MLB.com.

This should come as no surprise as Tebow has consistently averred he was dedicated to being a baseball player. He would even tell MMQB baseball is his “first love.”

Tebow began his 2017 season with the Columbia Fireflies, and he was promoted to the St. Lucie Mets at the end of June. Both Columbia and St. Lucie set attendance records this year. He had a 13-game hitting streak for St. Lucie and hit a walk-off home run on July 13.

On the field, Tebow has combined to hit .222/.306/.344 with 23 doubles, two triples, eight homers, and 51 RBI in 123 games.

At the moment, there is no expectation the Mets will add Tebow to the 40-man roster so he can be a September call-up. Tebow’s name has not been included in the initial Arizona Fall League rosters. To that end, unless Tebow is invited to participate in the Instructional Leagues, his baseball season will be over this Sunday.

In the offseason, Tebow will return to his role as a pre-game analyst of the SEC Network.
