The New York Post, caught up with catcher Josh Thole who is heading to Dallas to begin working on improving his skills as a catcher.

Thole realizes how poorly he has performed and is hoping to turn around what was a bad season overall for him in 2011.

“I didn’t have a tremendous year by any means,” said Thole, who hit .268 with three homers and 40 RBIs in 340 at-bats. “Every year for me, that’s what it’s going to be about — I’m going to have to prove myself every day in spring training and just show I can catch 162 games.”

Thole is expected to be the starting catcher despite his problems behind the dish according to sandy Alderson.

It’s a positive sign to see Thole getting an early jump on his workouts and he’s expected to spend about 2-3 weeks working with the Mets  catching coordinator, Bob Natal.

Last season, Thole led the National League in passed balls with 16, and had one of the worst caught stealing percentages in the game ranking 97th among 100 catchers.

Plenty of room for improvement and at this point all Thole can do is go up.
