The Mets men up the middle, Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera have struggled in different aspects at the plate. Both have been hurting the offense tremendously when needed most.

In Walker’s case he just has not been hitting at all. He has struggled mightily, looking overmatched and just unable to get comfortable at the plate. After a hot start to his season, he has come back down to Earth.

Walker was given a much needed breather on Sunday. In his previous 30 games, Walker has hit to a slash of just .180/.242/.279. In the same time frame he has hit three homers to go along with 15 RBI. He still stands as part of the heart of this lineup and a key to it’s success.

Asdrubal Cabrera is having a good season. He though has struggled at the plate when the team needs him the most. Currently marred in an 0-for-32 slump with RISP, it is as if he tenses up anytime the opportunity presents itself.

Cabrera can be seen swinging at almost every first pitch when up to bat with RISP, no matter where the location of it is. He looks overmatched each time, unable to focus as he does in a normal at-bat. While batting with RISP, his slash shows a .172/.274/.203 line.

Cabrera’s overall numbers on the season find to be decent with a 260/.313/.423 slash. He has out shined most expectations this season and continues to be a good ballplayer. Both Walker and Cabrera have proved to be a formidable double-play combo, turning them with ease.

If both players can get their bats to come back around, it will only help to elongate the lineup. Both players have been key parts to the 2016 season and will continued to be looked at as so going forward.
