On Monday night, the Mets dropped their fourth consecutive game to the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks. Bartolo Colon was not making the pitches he normally does and put the team in an early 3-0 hole in the first. The Mets went on to lose 10-6 as the pitching was unable to stop the last place D-Backs.

“I think my pitches weren’t great this time, and they were kind of taking advantage of that,” Colon said. (NY Post)

The road trip this team is currently on could define their season. A 10-game trip that started with Arizona and follows with San Francisco and St. Louis.  The Mets will bring Noah Syndergaard to the mound tonight as he will attempt to get the team right back on track. This team needs to win the final two games of this series before heading to much tougher games against the Giants and Cardinals. Manager, Terry Collins understand that the team in Arizona has been handled easily by others.

“They have got a good offensive team, and you’ve got to make pitches against them,” Collins said. “You look at all the pitchers they have used and some of the ERAs, people have been hitting them. We haven’t been hitting, so we have a tough time scoring.”

The Mets have played down to their competition against some of the worst teams in baseball this year, including the Atlanta Braves. At this point of the season as they fight for their playoff lives, they need to take advantage of the teams that should not be considered threats.

The Giants and Cardinals will present the Mets with an opportunity to play two teams who could have an impact on both Wild Card spots. Enduring through these final nine games of the road trip is pivotal as it is the toughest stretch left in their schedule.

It all starts tonight with Syndergaard, who needs to not only get himself back on track, but to help the Mets finally slay the dragon known as the Diamondbacks for the first time this season.
