I came across an interesting article on MetsBlog, well a Tweet really, but basically it read:
MLB note: in the last 366 days, the Phils have traded away 8 of their top 10 prospects from 2009, and 4 of their top 6 prospects from 2010.

I wound up having a little debate about it with a friend, who said,
The Phillies also have two World Series trips in that period including a World Series win and trophy.
It’s also important to note, that in exchange for the prospects the Phillies gave up, they received TWO “Cy Young caliber” starters that are among the elite pitchers in baseball, and will have them through the 2012 season.
The Mets have held onto their prospects tightly, but they also have been playing under .500 during the same period including a 4th place finish last season and probably the same this season.
While I was reading other posts on MetsBlog, I also learned that Mets outfield prospect Kirk Nieuwenhuis may have also joined the ranks of Mets untouchables, a list that keeps growing by the day lately.
Nieuwenhuis, by the way, is unranked by Baseball America as a prospect and did not make the latest Mets organizational top ten prospect list, but his legend grows nonetheless.
Anyway, getting back to the point of this post…
What is better, giving up prospects for two straight trips to the World Series and most likely a third, or keeping your prospects and continuing along the same path the Mets have been on for the last two seasons?
Do you prefer the Omar Minaya way or the Ruben Amaro Jr. way?
I really would like to know your thoughts on this…
