Minor League Portion- The Mets lost minor league pitcher Octavio Acosta to the Houston Astros in the minor league portion of the draft. Acosta was actually on loan last year to the Mexican League where he had a 8.68 ERA and 1.643 WHIP. In 2014 he pitched for the Savannah Sand Gnats and Brooklyn Cyclones. They also lost infielder Alfredo Reyes to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the minor league phase.

The Mets decided to pass with the 24th pick in the Major League portion of the Rule 5 draft. The St. Louis Cardinals selected Mets pitching prospect Matthew Bowman with their pick in the first round. Bowman struggled with the Las Vegas 51’s this year going 7-16 with a 5.53 ERA. The Cardinals will now have to keep the Bowman who was the Mets #19 prospect according to MLB Pipeline on their 25-man roster for the entire season.

The Major League portion is now over and the Mets outfield prospect Wuilmer Becerra was not taken. Neither was utility player T.J. Rivera who received some buzz as a guy who could get drafted prior to today.
