Only 48 hours until pitchers and catchers report and a new season of Mets baseball gets underway.

Last week, former Governor Patterson was a guest of Steve Somers on WFAN.

At one point during the show, Somers said “Hard to believe that we are only one week away before Mets pitchers and catchers report”.

Governor Patterson chuckled and then responded, “Steve, I think you meant to say one week until catchers report, the Mets have no pitchers.”

I beg to differ with you governor.

We will have some good arms in R.A. Dickey and Jon Niese, and Mike Pelfrey will get the Opening Day nod. Not exactly the cream of the crop, but they’re not chopped liver either. They are each solid and can hopefully hold the fort down until Johan Santana comes back.

As for the other two remaining spots, they will be filled from this group of less than magnificent seven.

1. Chris Capuano
2. Chris Young
3. D.J. Carrasco
4. Pat Misch
5. Boof Bonser
6. Oliver Perez
7. Dillon Gee

Here’s a scary thought. What if Oliver Perez out-pitches all of them?
