The Mets have been here before, staring up at the standings as the season trudges on. The team dropped another game to the Nationals last night by a score of 5-0.

Manager, Terry Collins knows this is not the time to panic. Keeping guys upbeat and loose is a key for this team to have any success going forward.

“I’m scratching my head  little bit. We’ve got to make sure that these guys stay upbeat and continue to put together some good at-bats and see if we can drive some runs in,” Collins said. (NY Post)

Driving in runs has been the problem for a dormant offense. The Mets were shut out again in last night’s loss for the eighth time this season. The inability to manufacture runs, and the lack of success with runners in scoring position continues to be detrimental for this club.

The Mets now see themselves five games back in the NL East as they march towards the All-Star break. They also find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the Wild Card race, behind the Miami Marlins.

“It’s frustrating but that’s part of the game, part of what you battle through. We’ve been down this path before. We’ll battle through it,” Collins said.

It has started to get late early as this team needs to find a way to scratch some wins together against these tough teams ahead. It does not get any easier after Washington, as the Mets will see the Cubs, Marlins and Nationals once more before taking some time to reflect at the break.
