Marc Carig of Newsday is reporting that Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada continues to make progress in his recovery from a broken fibula in his right leg, according to his representative at the Legacy Agency, Chris Leible.
Tejada, who will turn 24 on Sunday, remains on track to stay within his initial six-to-eight-week recovery window. He suffered the injury Sept. 18 when he got tangled up with outfielder Andrew Brown on a shallow fly ball.
In what was a wasted season that started out bad and got progressively worse, Tejada batted just .202/.259/.260 in 208 at-bats for the Mets. After his first DL stint he was demoted to the minors and frustrated Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson with his poor work ethic. In an interview on WFAN, the Mets GM told Mike Francesa that getting Tejada to do anything extra was like pulling teeth.
Tejada lost his starting job to Omar Quintanilla, but the Mets are expected to seek an upgrade ar shortstop this offseason.
