Then, he got promoted. It happened two days after Hayden Senger was promoted to the big leagues, so Parada was likely sent to Syracuse just to fill the void. But regardless of the reasons behind it, he was there. And, all of a sudden, he started hitting. In his first 16 games at Triple-A, Parada has hit .333/.389/.479/.868 with four extra-base hits, including one home run.

But is it real? Let’s find out.

Kevin Parada Triple-A percentiles from 2025 (left) and 2026 (right). Images courtesy of Thomas Nestico @TJStats on X.

Parada also spent 16 games at Triple-A in 2025, so there’s a small sample size available to use as a comparison. Mostly, it looks really, really good. His contact rates are improved, as is his launch angle sweet-spot percentage, barrel rate and pull air percentage. He’s making a lot of contact, and hitting it at good angles. While he’s not showing great power, he’s hitting the ball hard frequently enough to play. Pair that with good swing decisions, and it makes a very solid offensive profile.

The verdict: Maybe. It’s just 16 games. It is way, way, way too small of a sample size to truly pull anything from. He has three full seasons of sample size that suggests that this is a fluke, but the underlying data suggests his Triple-A numbers are more than batted ball luck. He has now, at the very least, commanded more attention than he has since the day he was drafted.

All of a sudden, the probability of Parada becoming a big leaguer has risen greatly. Can he handle catcher? Who knows. Probably not, at least not over an extended showing. But he’s now made himself an option. If Francisco Alvarez or Luis Torrens gets hurt, Senger is still probably the first option to replace them. His bat leaves much to be desired, but Senger is an elite defensive catcher. That matters. If both Alvarez and Torrens go down, then Parada could get the call.

He’s at Triple-A, one step away from the big leagues. Even if it’s just briefly, the Mets will want to graduate their former first-round pick. If the Mets are out of it come the end of the year, and he hasn’t yet been forced up due to injury, Parada could head to Queens.

The Mets dominantly swept the Marlins at Citi Field. As a result, they have now won four straight while finishing the homestand 4-2.

There is still a long way to go for this team to prove they have what it takes to mount a true turnaround. Still, it felt good to see this ballclub take care of business in a big way for once.

On that note, let’s recap everything from the Marlins series in the latest edition of 3 Up, 3 Down …

3 UP

SIGNS OF LIFE

For the first time in a while, the offense delivered consistent results. The Mets outscored the Marlins 25-9 over the three games. Yes, Miami is hardly a world beater, but this same team did sweep New York in late May. And, given just how bad this offense has been, it doesn’t matter the opponent as long as runs are scored. MJ Melendez, Carson Benge, Hayden Senger, and Marcus Semien all came up with big and clutch hits over the weekend. In short, everyone contributed. Of course, one man in particular stole the show.

STAR ATTRACTION

The aforementioned man we’re talking about is Juan Soto, obviously. The superstar hitter stayed on a heater against Miami, making sizable contributions in all three games. The highlight was a grand slam in the finale, which effectively put the game out of reach. Soto finished the series with five RBIs, two walks, and three runs scored. Furthermore, he’s hitting .356/.431/.822/.1.254 with seven home runs, 15 RBIs, six walks, and 12 runs scored over his last 12 games. That’s called leading by example.

RISING STAR

Christian Scott is having a moment right now. The righty is fast turning into a reliable arm for the Mets, and he delivered arguably his best outing of the year on Saturday. Scott allowed just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts over five innings. As a result, he picked up the first win of his major league career. Furthermore, Scott owns a 2.97 ERA on the year and continues to show plenty of promise.

3 DOWN

NOT SO FAST

As encouraging as this weekend was for the Mets, let’s pump the brakes a little bit. They haven’t done anything yet, and have a long way to go to earn back our trust. It is still too soon to give them the benefit of the doubt. We need to see a lot more over a longer stretch of time before we really buy back in. It is also worth remembering that the sweep came against a bad Marlins team. Furthermore, the Mets have shown signs of promise before, only to then immediately collapse like a cheap pack of cards. It is a start, but let’s see how June unfolds before we start buying back all our stock in this team.

SHORT STAYS

The rub on Freddy Peralta has always been that he’s incapable of going deep in games. That’s hardly changed in New York. He’s pitched six innings or longer just four times as a Met. In his latest outing on Friday, he lasted just 4.2 innings, allowing four runs. Plus, with a 3.55 ERA on the year, Peralta has been solid, but there needs to be a lot more to come.

ROUGH PATCH

It wasn’t the best of weekends for Tobias Myers. Usually so reliable, the righty gave up the two-run homer that blew a big lead and made it a tied game on Friday. Myers was then optioned so that a fresh pitcher could be called up. After giving up runs in five of his last seven outings, Myers will hope to get the train back on the tracks once he does return to the majors.

Scott Notches First Career Win

Right now, the Mets’ starting rotation is in flux. Clay Holmes is injured, Freddy Peralta and Nolan McLean are struggling, and David Peterson‘s struggles have resulted in him going back to the bullpen. With that, the Mets need Scott and Jonah Tong to step up. Coming off one of his better outings of the season last weekend against the Marlins, Scott was impressive again. He pitched five good innings with eight strikeouts and allowed five hits and one earned run. Scott utilized his sweeper really well, throwing it 37.5% of the time. He also threw his fastball 40.6% of the time. Scott has 13 strikeouts in his last two outings.

Senger Hits First Career Home Run

Scott wasn’t the only one on the Mets who got a first for their career in the game. Catcher Hayden Senger, who had only one hit since coming back to the major leagues after the injury to Francisco Alvarez, took a slider away for his first home run of the season over the left field wall. Senger, who turned 29 years old in April, hit six home runs in the minor leagues this season. The team was waiting for Senger to demonstrate the power they knew he had. It was also just a feel-good moment as manager Carlos Mendoza, a longtime minor leaguer who never got a chance at the high level as a player, had a big smile on his face when Senger got back into the dugout after the home run.

Benge, Ewing Impress Mazzilli

Before they were inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame, Mazzilli and Valentine spoke to the media, and one of the highlights was Mazzilli speaking about the two rookie Mets outfielders. “I love watching Ewing and Benge play”, Mazzilli said, “They have all the tools, they’re exciting. I think there are some good things ahead for those young kids. They’re impressive.” Right on cue, Benge and Ewing showed exactly why Mazzilli is a fan. Ewing made a great running catch in the fifth inning to preserve a win chance for Scott. Benge not only made a nice catch of his own on defense but also had a three-hit day at the plate and scored a run.

Mets Game Notes

Marcus Semien notched two hits, including an RBI single. Juan Soto continued his hot streak with an RBI single. Jared Young slammed his first home run of the season. Mark Vientos ripped a double off the wall in left field that gave the Mets a 2-0 lead early in the game. Cionel Perez, Huascar Brazoban, Austin Warren, and Devin Williams all pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Player of the Game: Christian Scott

With eight strikeouts in five innings, Scott earned the first win of his major league career. His comeback from Tommy John surgery continues.

On Deck:

Nolan McLean will take the mound again on Sunday afternoon, looking for a crucial bounce-back performance after a couple of clunkers in a row. The Marlins will start Janson Junk. First pitch is set for 1:40 pm EST and will be televised locally on SNY and broadcast on WHSQ 880am.

Before the move, Polanco had also been dealing with left Achilles bursitis. The injury wasn’t bad enough to place the switch-hitter on the IL. Polanco was slashing .179/.246/.286 with one homer in 14 games.

The Mets recalled Hayden Senger from Triple-A Syracuse as the corresponding move. Senger has been dominating the minors this season, slugging .714 with five homers in 12 games.

The post Mets Place Jorge Polanco on 10-Day IL, Recall Hayden Senger appeared first on Metsmerized.

For pitching depth, it’s pretty clear. There are a handful of starters on call in Syracuse, and the same goes for the relievers. For the hitting depth, it’s a little less clear.

Ronny Mauricio was the first to get the call, replacing Soto, even though he’s an infielder. With five players capable of playing at least a corner outfield spot (Luis Robert Jr., Carson Benge, Brett Baty, Jared Young and Tyrone Taylor), an outfielder was not required to be Soto’s replacement.

If the Mets do not sustain another injury by the time Soto returns, Mauricio will be demoted and, in turn, become the next in line to be promoted again the next time he’s needed. If Soto is still on the injured list and the Mets need to call up a second player, the question gets a bit more complicated.

If a catcher is placed on the injured list…

Hayden Senger will be promoted. If Senger is unavailable at that time, it’ll likely be Ben Rortvedt. Simple.

If a middle infielder is placed on the injured list…

The list of replacements isn’t very exciting.

But first, even if Mauricio is already on the roster, that doesn’t guarantee him every day playing time. If Francisco Lindor is the one injured, Mauricio will likely play a good amount, but the Mets can put Bo Bichette at shortstop and Baty at third base. If he’s replacing Marcus Semien, Baty likely gets a good chunk of the playing time at second base while Mauricio enters a weird platoon with Taylor and Young. If one of those two occupies the third outfield spot, Baty plays second. If Baty heads to the outfield, Mauricio plays second.

While the Mets could theoretically call up an outfielder and still have enough infielders to survive, they’ll likely want someone capable of backing up a middle infield spot. There are no infielders besides Mauricio currently on the 40-man roster, so MLB veterans Christian Arroyo and Vidal Bruján would be in line to be added to the 40-man and promoted. Out of camp, it sounded like Bruján is in the lead.

Cristian Pache. Photo by Ed Delany of Metsmerized

If a corner infielder is placed on the injured list…

It could be anyone. There is a lot of position flexibility on the Mets roster.

It doesn’t even have to be an infielder called up to replace them. If it’s Jorge Polanco, the Mets still have three players on the roster capable of playing first: Baty, Young and Mark Vientos. If it’s Bichette, Baty likely becomes the everyday third baseman and Mauricio is his backup.

Morabito and Melendez are options, as are Bruján, Arroyo, and Christian Pache. There’s also Tommy Pham, who the Mets recently brought back, though he hasn’t appeared in a minor league game yet this season. He also has an opt out on April 25.

Nick Morabito. Photo by Ed Delany of Metsmerized

If another outfielder is placed on the injured list…

An outfielder will be called up to replace him.

Nick Morabito and MJ Melendez are both already on the 40-man roster. Morabito is the more exciting option of the two, because he would be promoted to make his MLB debut. He’s a speedy, contact-oriented outfielder who can play all three spots on the grass—and play them well. Melendez would likely be the pick if the Mets deem Morabito not ready. He is only a corner outfielder, but Benge’s versatility doesn’t rule him out as an option even if Luis Robert Jr. is the one to hit the shelf.

If they go with someone not on the 40-man roster, the list grows. Ryan Clifford, as Steve Gelbs noted on SNY over the weekend, is the most interesting of those options.

A first baseman and corner outfielder, Clifford has prodigious power and a high strikeout rate, though it has steadily improved throughout his minor league career. While he’ll always strike out more than the average hitter, it’s probably good enough to stay afloat in the majors at this point. It would be an aggressive move, but it can’t be ruled out. There are a couple of holdups. If the Mets promote Clifford, they will likely want him to play every day versus right-hand pitching. With the current group of Mets position players, that might not be possible. The other is Clifford and Young on the same roster would be a bit redundant, as they’re both 1B/OF who would only play vs right-handed pitching.

Pache, who had a very impressive spring training, is another option.

A.J. Ewing, Jacob Reimer or Chris Suero could theoretically be options to be called up straight from Double-A, but that’s highly unlikely. If the Mets want a player like Ewing, they’ll likely go for Morabito first, just as they’ll likely go for Clifford before Reimer. And, the Mets will want all three playing as much as possible, not joining the Mets just to ride the pine.

Odds are, a good handful of these players will take at-bats for the Mets in 2026. Injuries hit every team, and when the Mets do need to call on Syracuse for help, this is who is in line for the opportunity.

Last year was a resounding success for the Mets’ minor league affiliates, with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Brooklyn Cyclones each winning their respective league championships. We’ll see if that success continues in 2026.

Triple-A Syracuse

The Mets’ Triple-A squad has been in action for the longest amount of time so far, playing one three-game series and one six-game series. Syracuse took two of three games from the Worcester Red Sox before splitting a series with the Toledo Mud Hens to give them a 5-4 record through nine games.

Catcher Hayden Senger has been the biggest offensive surprise for Syracuse so far. Through five games, Senger is 7-for-17 with three home runs, seven RBIs, and five runs. Senger had just five home runs in 237 at-bats across Triple-A and the majors in 2025, so he’s already showing a major spike in power. He has a 1.474 OPS in the early going.

Nick Morabito has looked very comfortable in his first Triple-A action of his career. In seven games, he’s tied with the team lead with nine hits in 27 at-bats. He has a home run, two doubles, and two stolen bases. Morabito, our no. 13 prospect in the Mets’ system, will be turning 23 next month. Morabito sports an impressive .938 OPS.

Jackson Cluff has been another welcome addition to the Syracuse Mets after spending 2025 with the Nationals’ Triple-A squad. In nine games to start the season, Cluff is 6-for-23 with two home runs, two doubles, and a team-high six runs. The only major concern is a lopsided 9:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio to begin the year. Cluff owns a .901 OPS to begin the year.

Carl Edwards Jr., a veteran addition by the Mets this offseason, has made two starts for Syracuse so far. He hadn’t previously started games since 2014 in the minor leagues and never started a game in the majors. Edwards Jr. has tossed a total of nine innings with three runs allowed and eight strikeouts. He owns a 3.00 ERA early on.

Jack Wenninger had a promising start in his first Triple-A start of his career. MMO’s No. 7-ranked prospect tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Wenninger was sensational in 2025, going 12-6 with a 2.92 ERA across a full season in Binghamton.

Austin Warren and Anderson Severino were the highlights out of the bullpen during the opening week of the season, with neither surrendering a run. Warren struck out six and allowed just a hit and a walk in five innings across four appearances, while Severino allowed two hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings across three appearances.

Chris Suero

Double-A Binghamton

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies have played just two games so far, with one game in their opening three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats postponed due to weather. Binghamton is 1-1 with a 10-9 win and a 2-1 loss.

The sample size is very small, but there have been some impressive performances from the opening pair of games. Chris Suero is just 1-for-5, but he has the team’s only home run and an impressive five RBIs. He has also scored a pair of runs, tied for the team lead. Suero impressed with a .786 OPS across two levels in 2025 and a .920 OPS in 15 games during the Arizona Fall League.

A.J. Ewing has had arguably the best start on the team, however. Ewing has started the year 4-for-9 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases. Ewing, MMO’s No. 4-ranked Mets prospect, is coming off a breakout 2025 campaign and a very impressive spring training.

Eli Serrano is looking for a bounce back after a rough 2025 season, and he’s off to a good start. Serrano is 3-for-7 with two doubles and a triple. He has also walked three times and struck out just once.

Will Watson and Brendan Girton have each made starts for Binghamton. Watson went just three innings on Opening Day, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Girton had a better go of it, allowing a run in 3 1/3 innings on no hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.

Several relievers have begun the season with scoreless outings. Matt Turner and Zach Peek each went two innings without allowing a run, while Carlos Guzman went 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run.

High-A Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Cyclones have also played just two games so far, with one of their three games against the Hudson Valley Renegades also postponed due to weather. Brooklyn dropped both of their first two games, 3-1 and 8-1.

Offense was hard to come by in the first two games, but a couple of players stood out. John Bay went 2-for-3 with the team’s only home run. Bay had an excellent, albeit brief, 2025 season across two levels with the Mets, recording an .874 OPS in 27 games after signing as an undrafted free agent.

Antonio Jimenez, the Mets’ 2025 third-round pick, also recorded two hits in the first two games. He went 2-for-6 with a double, two walks, and a stolen base. These first two games were the first above the Low-A level for Jimenez.

Noah Hall and Wyatt Hudepohl each made a start for the Cyclones. Hall was neither stellar nor awful, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings on three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Hudepohl, making his first appearance since 2024 after missing the entire 2025 season, struggled with six runs allowed in 3 1/3 innings. It was just the ninth career professional appearance for Hudepohl, who will look to stay healthy and find his footing this year.

Bryce Jenkins and Brett Banks both looked solid out of the bullpen. Jenkins tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his season debut, allowing a hit and striking out two. Banks, coming off an excellent 2025 season across three levels, threw 1 1/3 hitless innings, allowing just a walk and striking out three.

Elian Pena. Photo by Ed Delany of Metsmerized

Low-A St. Lucie

The St. Lucie Mets were fortunately able to get all three of their games in from their opening series, and they won two of them against the Palm Beach Cardinals.

Despite winning the series, the bats were not hot for St. Lucie. However, the hottest bat was the most notable name on the team, Elian Peña. Making his stateside debut, Peña, our No. 10 ranked Mets prospect, went 4-for-12 in the three games with two doubles, two walks, a stolen base, and an RBI. The Mets’ prized international prospect completely jumped the Florida Complex League after recording a .949 OPS in the Dominican Summer League in 2025. He won’t turn 19 until October.

Julio Zayas also had an impressive first week. After spending the last two years in the Florida Complex League, he started off his Low-A career by going 5-for-13 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Cam Tilly, the Mets’ seventh-round pick in last summer’s draft, had a brilliant pro debut. The Auburn product tossed five hitless innings, allowing just one walk with six strikeouts. The other two starts in the series from Frank Camarillo (3.1 IP, 2 ER) and Nicolas Carreno (2.1 IP, ER) were more brief and not nearly as impressive as Tilly’s outing.

Out of the bullpen, Conner Ware also had an impressive professional debut. The Mets’ 15th-round pick from last summer went three scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.

Organizational Leaders

Batting (min. 10 plate appearances)

• AVG – A.J. Ewing (BNG) – .444 (4-for-9)
• OPS – Hayden Senger (SYR) – 1.474
• HR – Hayden Senger (SYR) – 3
• SB – Ronny Mauricio (SYR)/Cristian Pache (SYR) – 3

Pitching (min. 5 innings)

• ERA – Cam Tilly (STLSYR) – 0.00
• SO – Carl Edwards Jr. (SYR)/Jonathan Pintaro (SYR) – 8
• WHIP – Cam Tilly (STL) – 0.20

Players of the Week

Offense – Hayden Senger, C Syracuse

Senger is an important player for the Mets. The de facto No. 3 catcher in the organization, he’s experienced the major leagues and has plenty of experience in Triple-A. He’s never been an offensive threat, evidenced by his career .685 OPS across eight minor league seasons, but his bat has been on fire to start this season. If he can improve even slightly offensively, the Mets will begin to feel much better about their catcher depth.

Pitching – Cam Tilly, P St. Lucie

Cam Tilly recorded an ERA above 6.00 in his two collegiate seasons at Auburn. The Mets clearly saw something they liked enough to take him in the seventh round of the 2025 draft, and he already looks fantastic. Of course, it would be foolish to overreact to just one start, but if he can have a solid season in St. Lucie, the Mets will have another exciting pitching prospect who has developed nicely in their system.

Upcoming Schedule – April 7-12

• Triple-A Syracuse: @ Buffalo
• Double-A Binghamton: vs. Somerset
• High-A Brooklyn: @ Jersey Shore
• Low-A St. Lucie: vs. Dunedin

The post Mets Minors Weekly Report: 2026 Season Gets Underway appeared first on Metsmerized.

On Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals traded right-hander Sonny Gray to the Red Sox for pitching prospect Brandon Clarke and Richard Fitts, as first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. ESPN’s Jeff Passan later added that St. Louis will kick in $20 million in the deal. Gray’s contract will also be slightly modified, likely as a reward for waiving his full no-trade clause.

The 36-year-old Gray currently slots in as Boston’s No. 2 starter behind Garrett Crochet. He brings 13 years of big-league experience, including three seasons with Cy Young votes — the most recent coming in 2023.

Heading to St. Louis are two young arms in Clarke and Fitts. Clarke, a 22-year-old lefty, is an intriguing prospect who’s touched 100 mph and pairs it with a plus-plus slider. The 2024 fifth-round pick reached High-A in 2025. Fitts, on the other hand, has already gotten a taste of the majors and looked solid in the first few months of the season. The hard-throwing righty made 11 big-league starts and finished with a 5.00 ERA, but at 25, he still has room to grow.

Interesting enough, Alvarez did have two hits on Saturday against Philadelphia, including a home run to deep left field. However, this move appeared to be in the making prior, one that seemed coming based on the 23-year-old’s continued struggles.

In the aforementioned corresponding move, Hayden Senger is coming back to the big leagues. In Triple-A, Senger was slashing .240/.286/.323, with a .609 OPS. In 13 games with the Mets in 2025, he had five hits, including one double. Senger is known for his defense, as he posted a plus-five defensive runs saved in only 13 big-league games.

At only 23 years old, Alvarez is still at the beginning of his development. Going back to Triple-A will help him try to find his game again and continue to grow into one of the game’s toughest positions. Most notable, in his breakout 2023 season where he hit 25 homers, Alvarez actually similarly hit the ball hard as he has this season. However, the biggest difference this year is a pull rate of 18.8%. In 2023, that figure was at 27.1%. This should be a huge focus for the young catcher in Syracuse.
