Right-handed starting pitcher Kodai Senga accepted an option to Triple-A Syracuse and catcher Francisco Alvarez will return to the Mets from his rehab assignment, the club announced on Friday ahead of a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds.

Senga, 32, has pitched to a 6.56 ERA since the All-Star break, and after his last outing, manager Carlos Mendoza said, “we’ll see what’s next for him.”

His ERA was 1.47 when he strained his right hamstring covering first base on June 12. SNY’s Andy Martino added that Senga is currently expected to make two starts for Syracuse, though that number is largely dependent on how he performs.

Alvarez went on the injured list with a UCL sprain in his right thumb last month, then suffered a fractured pinky finger on his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in a rehab game last week. He hit a home run and caught two straight full games at Syracuse this week. The thumb will eventually require surgery.

Alvarez’s season debut was delayed until April 25 because of a fractured left hamate bone he suffered during spring training.

The Mets also announced that reliever Wander Suero, who they claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves, will join the team while catcher Hayden Senger will be optioned to Syracuse.

Suero, 33, gave up eight earned runs over 6 1/3 innings for Atlanta this year. His career ERA is 4.96 in 199 2/3 innings over seven seasons.
