Noah Syndergaard has shown up to Spring Training early this year and is raring to go. He spoke with Kevin Kernan of the New York Post recently about his excitement for the 2019 season as well as his thoughts on the team as a whole.

Syndergaard, 26, touched on his thoughts on the roster Brodie Van Wagenen has built this offseason and specifically highlighted a few additions including his new battery mate behind the dish.

Wilson Ramos behind the plate is a guy who can control the running game, he really adapts to his pitchers, and he also can mash the baseball. I think the lineup is going to be a force to be reckoned with.’’

“I think we are a really good team now. Robinson Cano is a stud. Edwin Diaz is coming off a stellar season. Our bullpen with [Robert] Gsellman and [Seth] Lugo last year was pretty shut down with those guys, and we are stronger there now, we have really deepened our bullpen. And with Familia coming back, he is a great clubhouse guy, a super nice guy, a lot of key upgrades.’’

The flamethrowing right-hander went on to give high praise for the new GM who was also his agent at CAA up until this off-season.

“I was in constant communication with Brodie. I think Brodie is the GM baseball has been longing for. It’s really cool seeing him in the batting cage the other day and then making the announcement that he is going to sit in The 7 Line [Army] section during the Subway Series. I was like, ‘Hell, I wish I could do that. If I’m not pitching that day, I want to join him.’”

“Brodie is definitely going to give us the tools to succeed, whether it’s the new acquisitions or more personnel as far as front office or the training staff or strength and conditioning, anything you need to succeed.’’

Syndergaard also talked about some changes he’s made in his regimen in order to be more effective for the entirety of the season in 2019.

“I revamped my offseason training, where I wasn’t focused on moving a whole lot of weight but just try to move a moderate amount of weight fairly quickly. Last year I was slow and methodical to a degree.”

“You’re cutting yourself off, so I’ve focused on being more fluid and gaining acceleration down the slope. I did a lot of more explosive plyometrics stuff, a lot of jumping in terms of upper-body stuff, a lot of shoulder stabilization and just trying to be an athlete.”

The Texan native has made it his personal goal for the season to make “30 starts and [throw] 200 innings in 2019.
