Following his brief, one-inning appearance out of the bullpen in Saturday’s loss to the Yankees, Steven Matz is officially headed to the injured list with left shoulder discomfort, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

Manager Luis Rojas stated as much in his postgame presser, believing that Matz’s removal after just a single inning of work was likely an indication that an IL stint was ahead.

Matz, after having been bumped from the rotation due to his struggles, made just one appearance out of the bullpen – yesterday’s scoreless inning – before the aforementioned shoulder discomfort cropped up.
