On Tuesday, the nominees for the 2018 Roberto Clemente Award were announced, and Steven Matz will be the player represent the New York Mets.

The Roberto Clemente Award recognizes the player who best represents baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

Matz, 27, established his “Tru32” program two years ago that honors first responders from the NYPD, FDNY and military.

The winner will be chosen in October, and is MLB’s most prestigious off field award.

2017’s winner was the Chicago Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo.
