After a convincing 6-4 victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night, the New York Mets (86-67) are on the brink of their first postseason in nine years.

With the Washington Nationals losing again to the Baltimore Orioles before the Mets even took the field on Thursday, the Mets’ magic number to clinch the National League East title has been slashed to three.

The Mets increased their division lead to 7 1/2 games with nine games remaining on their schedule, and they can clinch as early as Saturday.

With the 2015 regular season nearing the end, Bovada has released their updated odds for the World Series. Only three teams have better odds than the Mets to win the World Series.

It’s increasingly apparent that the Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers will hook up in the National League Divisional Series. What now lies at stake is home-field advantage and currently the Mets trail the Dodgers by 1 1/2 games.

Manager Terry Collins told reporters on Thursday that he is unconcerned about finishing ahead of the Dodgers.

“Five o’clock in Los Angeles is really a tough time to play at Dodger Stadium. That being said, it’s going to be a tough time for them, too,” Collins said. “Right now we’ve just got to get in. I don’t care where we play.”

Collins also mentioned how less pressurized it is in the clubhouse when the team is away from Citi Field where he says they play too tight. And the home and road disparity in both record and numbers of late support that.

But I could care less about that right now… Our team is on the verge of clinching on Saturday and I’m so ecstatic that we’re heading back to the postseason.

I’ve believed in this team since Spring Training and we’ve all been through thick and thin while keeping the faith under some trying periods throughout a long and sometimes tedious season. For the true believers, our loyalty is about to be rewarded.

And as I’ve maintained since the All-Star break, if we made it to the postseason the Mets would easily be the most dangerous team in the playoffs, and a team that can go all the way. Our pitching in a short series will be lethal.

It’s been such a fun and exciting and thrilling season to be a part of and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us in the next four weeks. Mets baby!
