Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger lists these three items at the top of the Mets T-Do List for this offseason:

1. The status of Jose Reyes
Nothing is more important than this. A variety of dominoes fall in either direction depending on if GM Sandy Alderson and Reyes can agree about a contract. Reyes is seeking
a multi-year deal worth perhaps nine figures.

2. Fixing the bullpen
After sifting through the bargain bin last winter, Alderson paid the price by assembling an ineffective relief corps. He plans to spend more money this winter, and hopefully find a closer.

3. Saving the outfield
Angel Pagan might get non-tendered. Jason Bay could move to center field. And Daniel Murphy could return to his old haunts in the outfield. There are a variety of moving parts involved with the team’s outfield, but Alderson is committed to improving the team’s defense.

I like reading Andy’s columns and do so everyday. As for his list, I would worry less about the outfield and include the starting rotation in there somewhere, probably at number two.

Unless of course he came to the conclusion that they probably can’t and won’t be able to do anything about the rotation anyway, so he picked the outfield instead. That’s certainly a possibility.

He also points out via Twitter, the following little nuggets:

  • Yuniesky Betancourt had seven more RBI than any member of the Mets this season.
  • Raul Ibanez had six more homers than any member of the Mets this season.
Thanks for that Andy… All of a sudden I’ve lost my appetite. 😉
