The TC Palm reports the Port St. Lucie Council unanimously approved a $55 million renovation for First Data Field. First Data Field, formerly Tradition Field, is the home of the Single-A St. Lucie Mets, and it also serves as the Spring Training home for the New York Mets.

After the approval was announced, St. Lucie Mayor Greg Oravec said to team representatives, “We love our Mets, whether they’re from New York or Port St. Lucie. You’re such a big part of this community. It’s great to see a good thing can be even better.”

A January MMN post discussed the proposed upgrades to the park which include a 360-degree view of the action as well as improvements to the clubhouse and other fan amenities. Even with the team drawing record crowds beginning with Tim Tebow‘s promotion, there are no plans in place to provide additional seating.

The work on the stadium will begin after the Mets complete Spring Training, the first for new manager Mickey Callaway. Most of the work will be completed by the time the Mets report to Spring Training in 2019.
