The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 10-5 at First Data Field.
Pitching:
Seth Lugo made the start for the Mets today. He threw two scoreless innings while only allowing one hit and a hit by pitch.
Kevin McGowan struggled giving up three earned runs, four hits including a walk, and a home run by Randy Arozarena.
Marcos Molina gave up a three-run homer to Adonis Garcia to make it a 6-1. In his second inning of work, he gave up a two-run double to Luke Voit making it 8-3.
P.J. Conlon threw 1.2 innings and gave up four hits, two earned runs and one walk while striking out three batters.
Corey Taylor tossed 1.1 innings of no-hit ball while striking out one batter. Gerson Bautista, acquired in the Addison Reed trade, gave up one hit and a walk.
Drew Gagnon threw a scoreless inning to finish the day off for New York.
Offense:
The Mets offense got off to a good start. In the first inning, the bases were loaded and Kevin Plawecki walked in the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the third, the Mets cut the deficit with a two-run single by Plawecki making it 6-3. He went 1-for-1 with a walk overall.
Brandon Nimmo was 1-for-2 in the leadoff spot picking up a single and an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 8-4 in the fourth.
Luis Guillorme hit a solo home run to make it 10-5 in the fifth, but it would prove to be too little too late, as the Cards held on to their lead from there on out.
On Deck
The Mets will be back at it tomorrow playing the Miami Marlins at 1:10 p.m. Robert Gsellman is scheduled to make his first start.
