The New York Mets lost to the Houston Astros by a score of 8-2 this afternoon at First Data Field. They are off to a 2-3 start so far this Spring.

Pitching:

Steven Matz was tagged for five runs on three hits in one inning of work. He walked two and struck out one, and started the second inning, but was removed before recording an out.

Corey Taylor chipped in one inning of work, followed by Anthony Swarzak who surrendered one run in 0.2 innings before exiting the game with a calf injury.

Corey Oswalt, Chris Flexen, Marcos Molina, Gerson Bautista kept the Astros at bay from then until the ninth.

Kevin McGowan surrendered two more runs in the ninth, but Matz’s rough outing proved to be the killer.

Offense:

The Mets were held off the board until the third inning when Jay Bruce drove in a run on a ground out. Bruce later registered a hit in his first Spring game.

Jeremy Vasquez plated the second Mets run of the game in the sixth on a single to right center that scored Phillip Evans.

Tim Tebow came on as a pinch hitter, but went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.

New York loaded the bases in the ninth but were able to surmount the six run deficit.

On deck:

The Mets will take on the Atlanta Braves at Champion Stadium Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Matt Harvey will start the game, followed by Zack Wheeler.
