The Major League Players Association released their own statement on Friday after news came down that the first week of Spring Training games have been postponed.

“MLB announced today that it ‘must’ postpone the start of spring training games. This is false. Nothing requires the league to delay the start of spring training, much like nothing required the league’s decision to implement the lockout in the first place. Despite these decisions by the league, Players remain committed to the negotiating process.”

Major League Baseball announced on Friday that all Spring Training games before March 5th have been officially postponed due to the lockout. The Mets spring schedule was originally slated to kick off on Feb. 26th on the road against the Marlins. The announcement postpones seven games from the Mets ST schedule and now has game in Port St. Lucie hosting the Nationals as their first scheduled game of 2022 spring camp.

Most importantly, the release announced that the Major League Baseball owners and the Major League Baseball Players Association will meet on Monday to discuss the next collective bargaining agreement.

MLB notes that they will meet every day next week, “”to negotiate and work hard towards starting the season on time.”

The most recent meeting between MLB and MLBPA took place on Thursday and lasted 15 minutes. The key discussions were centered around arbitration status, which you can read more about here.

The owners initiated a lockout in early December as soon as the previous CBA expired.
