In the center of this vintage photo from 1962 is the first owner of the New York Mets, Mrs. Joan Payson, who is flanked by our first general manager George Weiss, and the team’s first manager Casey Stengel.

All three played a significant role in the formative years of the Mets, and when Nelson Doubleday purchased the franchise in 1980, he believed the first of order of business was to honor the team’s history.

In 1981, Doubleday announced the formation of the New York Mets Hall of Fame and the committee he headed inducted Joan Payson, George Weiss and Casey Stengel as the first three inaugural members. (One great owner honoring another great owner!)

Over the next few years, Gil Hodges (manager), Bill Shea (founder), and Johnny Murphy (general manager) were also inducted into the Mets HOF, followed by the legendary broadcast team of Bob Murphy, Lindsey Nelson, and Ralph Kiner.

It wasn’t until 1986 that the first player was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame and that’s the focus of this week’s challenge.

Can you name all 19 players in the Mets Hall of Fame including the newest additions announced this past January?

You have 2 1/2 minutes to see if you can get them all.

Think you know the Mets?

Prove It and Good Luck!!!
