What a wonderful feeling it was to wake up this morning and find the Mets are finally at .500 again. As I wrote yesterday, I feel strongly that the Mets can win two out of three or even sweep the Yankees this weekend, and last night only confirmed that for me.

The Mets also creeped out of last place and into fourth place just 1.5 games behind the Braves for third place. Small steps – small steps.

Considering we have about $50 million dollars of our payroll sitting on the DL, this team hase played impressively of late and I expect things will only get better as we get healthier.

Lets Go Mets!

Original Post 5/20 – Mets Can Go Over .500 This Weekend

After opening the season with a 5-13 start, things began to look bleak early for the Mets and some were already beginning to toss in the towel and called the Mets all but dead.

Writers like Kevin Kernan and Joel Sherman of the NY Post were already calling for a fire sale.

Well guess what?

The Mets battled back and they did it with many of their key components hobbling or on the DL. After that woeful start, the Mets went on to go 16-9 in their next 25 games and now find themselves with a 21-22 record, only one game below .500.

Terry Collins spoke about that this evening from Yankee Stadium.

“We have battled back from a real tough week. And it’s always hard at this level. When you fall down below .500 by eight games, it’s a long way back. You can ask the Red Sox. You can ask the Rays. Anybody that got off to a slow start, it’s a long, hard road back. To leave this series and be at .500, or be above .500, would be a huge plus for us. Especially in our situation we’re in right now, with several stars sitting on the side, it would be a huge boost for our players.”

The Mets would have to take two out of three from the Yankees to get out of the Bronx with a .500 record, and as inconsistent as the Yankees pitching and offense has been this season, it’s not far-fetched for the Mets two win two games or even sweep the series.

The players are all tuned into it as well. “We’re cognizant of that,” the southpaw said. “Whenever you come off a rough start, your goal is always to get back to that point, then go from there. We’re aware of it.”

There’s a lot riding on this series for the Mets, and a big weekend could give the team a huge confidence boost that just might keep them going until their star David Wright returns from the disabled list.
