Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com reports that Paul Sewald will be called up to take the spot vacated by Jeurys Familia on the active roster.

The right-hander was one of the Mets most used relievers early in the season, but was optioned last month and has been up and down ever since.

In 28 games (41 innings) this season, the 28-year old has a 0-4 record, 5.05 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts.

Mickey Callaway said yesterday that the team plans to go closer-by-committee in order to replace Familia’s role on the team.

Dicomo notes that the newly-acquired Bobby Wahl had 65 strikeouts and a 2.27 ERA in 39 2/3 innings at Triple-A. Despite John Ricco saying that he is major league ready, it appears the Mets chose to go in a different direction this time around.
