MLB: New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies

The Major League Baseball Players announced that  Daniel MurphyIke DavisBobby ParnellDillon Gee, Eric Young Jr., Lucas Duda and Ruben Tejada all filed for salary arbitration today.

The Mets can still settle with one or more of these players before their hearing, but once it goes to arbitration, an arbitrator will choose only one of the two figures exchanged by the team and player, and not some dollar figure in between.

Here are the estimated salaries as per MLB Trade Rumors with service time in parenthesis:

  • Daniel Murphy (4.109): $5.8 Million
  • Ike Davis (3.155): $3.5 Million
  • Dillon Gee (3.028): $3.4 Million
  • Bobby Parnell (4.132): $3.2 Million
  • Eric Young, Jr. (3.123): $1.9 Million
  • Lucas Duda (2.132, Super Two): $1.8 Million
  • Ruben Tejada (2.151, Super Two): $1 Million

Those numbers all seem about right to me. The big one of course is Murphy who will be getting a considerable raise after finishing second in the NL in base-hits and having an overall good season. Last month, I wondered if he’d be a good two-year extension candidate, like two years for $10 million. It would probably enhance his trade value.

I bet the Mets settle with Young, Duda, Tejada, Parnell and Gee very quickly. Murphy and Davis might be a little more complicated, but I’m almost certain they will avoid a hearing.
