Since returning from the disabled list, Seth Lugo has had his ups and downs. Looking to rebound from an eight-run outing, he did just that, tossing five strong frames against the Marlins last night.
Had AJ Ramos nailed down the save in the ninth inning, Lugo would have notched his 7th win of the season. Instead, he must settle for a no-decision for a night he pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and three strikeouts, walking one.
The only mistake of the day was an opposite-field solo home run to Christain Yelich in the 4th inning.
In terms of pitch count, the Mets are treating Lugo with kid gloves to round out the season. The last thing they want is for him to aggravate either his shoulder impingement or partially torn UCL. He threw 83 pitches in last night’s game, and hasn’t thrown more than 84 in any start since returning from the DL.
Overall this season, Lugo is 6-5 with a 5.03 ERA and 4.13 FIP in 16 starts. In 91.1 innings he has struck out 74 and walked 25.
