Dick Scott, who served as the Mets bench coach in the 2016 and 2017 seasons , will be the new manager of the Syracuse Mets in 2023, replacing Kevin Boles, according to MMO’s Michael Mayer.  Scott returned to the organization in 2021 after spending time with the Marlins, and had been serving as the team’s coordinator of coaching development and instruction.

Scott originally joined the Mets in 2011. and has previous experience managing in the minor leagues for the A’s and Diamondbacks organizations. Depending on how the big league roster shakes out, Scott could be the skipper to start the season for important Mets prospects like Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, and Ronny Mauricio.

The Mets also made a move in their scouting department on Wednesday, as they have also promoted Drew Toussaint to the role of amateur scouting director, as first reported by Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Toussaint has been with the Mets for 11 years in a variety of positions, and has been recognized as the scout that discovered Dominic Smith, who the Mets drafted in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

As the Mets continue to emulate the success of teams like the Dodgers by spending big now while developing talent for the future, the success of their scouting and minor league divisions is critical. Toussaint is viewed by some as a “front office prospect” who should be comfortable running a modern scouting department, according to MMO’s Jack Ramsey.

Toussaint replaces former amateur scouting director, Marc Tramuta, who is now the team’s senior advisor to amateur and international scouting.
