The Oakland Athletics announced they have hired Sandy Alderson as a Senior Advisor to Baseball Operations.

Billy Beane, the Athletics current Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, remarked “His [Sandy’s] mentorship and friendship have been invaluable to me over the course of my career and I look forward to to the expertise and perspective he will add at every level of the organization.”

Alderson, 71, stepped down from the Mets GM position in June of 2018 after being diagnosed with cancer. In his nine seasons with the Mets organization, the team compiled a collective 707-751 record with two postseasons appearances and a 2015 NL Pennant.

The former Marine recently announced that he’s been cancer free for four months.

Alderson will return to the Athletics organization, the club that he started his baseball career with. He was named as a general counsel in 1981 and he eventually worked his way up to become the team’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations.

Alderson also worked for the Padres and for the Major League Offices in his career. We, at MMO, wish Sandy nothing but the best in his new job!
