Keith Law of ESPN released the start of his Top 100 Prospects list on Tuesday, with players ranked 100-51 being named which included some surprises for Mets fans.

Law has four Mets prospects in the group which is more than Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, and MLB Pipeline, but the biggest surprise is having Mark Vientos as his top Mets prospect (assuming no Mets in Top 50). Overall, Vientos is ranked as the No. 60 prospect in baseball.

Vientos, Mets second round pick in 2017, hit .287/.389/.489 with 12 doubles, 11 home runs, 52 RBI in 262 plate appearances for the Appalachian League (Rookie Level) Kingsport Mets in 2018. The former shortstop will play the entire 2019 season at 19 years old, likely starting in Low-A with the Columbia Fireflies.

Law talked about the youngsters profile, “His OBP/contact/power profile should play anywhere, with his best chance to be a star coming at third but a high probability that he will be a regular even in right field or at first base.”

The next Met on the list was slugging first baseman Peter Alonso at No. 90, the lowest ranking for him on mainstream lists. Shortstop, and Mets’ top prospect according to most outlets, Andres Gimenez was ranked No. 97 according to Law.

Shortstop Ronny Mauricio was the final Mets prospect on the list, coming in at No. 99. The 17-year-old made his pro debut in 2018 hitting .273/.304/.410 between the GCL Mets and Kingsport.

Also of note is Law having former Mets prospects Justin Dunn ranked at No. 58, and Jarred Kelenic not on the list meaning he’s in the Top 50. Both were traded to the Mariners as part of the deal that landed the Mets second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz.
