Mets general manager Sandy Alderson reportedly met with with free agent outfielder Curtis Granderson on Sunday, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Alderson has said that acquiring two corner outfielders was among his many offseason goals. Last week, the Mets signed outfielder Chris Young to a one-year, $7.25 million deal.
After consecutive 40+ home run seasons in 2011-2012, Granderson batted .229/.317/.407 over 245 plate appearances in 2013, with seven home runs and 15 RBI in an injury shortened season caused by two hit by pitches.
Signing Granderson would cost the Mets a second round draft pick since he rejected the Yankees’ one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer.
Mets assistant GM John Ricco told reporters on November 11, the team has had preliminary talks with Granderson’s agent and would plan a formal meeting to discuss dollars and years.
However, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York spoke with a Mets insider who told him that the Mets interest in Curtis Granderson was being overstated.
Granderson, 33, is reportedly seeking a 3-4 year deal worth $15-17 million annually.
