The San Francisco Giants announced via Twitter that they have re-signed right-hander Anthony DeSclafani to a three-year deal worth $36 million. Jeff Passan of ESPN had the details of the contract.

Following a rough 2020, where he finished with a 7.22 ERA, 2021 was arguably the best year of Desclafani’s career, posting a career-best 3.17 ERA, with 152 strikeouts and 1.091 WHIP. He led the major leagues with two complete-game shutouts and was one of the most consistent pitchers in the Giants’ rotation.

There were many teams interested in the veteran, the Mets being one of them. He would have provided a solid top-of-the-rotation arm to any team seeking pitching help. However, the Giants opted to bring him back.

The Giants also are reportedly finalizing a deal to re-sign lefty Alex Wood. Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the deal is for two years and more than $10 million per season. Robert Murray of FanSided was the first to report the two sides were close to an agreement.

Wood, 30, will be entering his 10th major league season. He has spent his career all over the baseball landscape, spending time with the Braves, Dodgers, Reds, and Giants.

In 2021, he had a much-needed bounce-back year — 2019 and 2020 were both rough years for the southpaw, who had a 5.80 ERA and a 6.39 ERA, respectively. He put up a 3.83 ERA this past season while tossing 138 2/3 innings and striking out 152 batters. Wood was a solid piece in the Giants’ rotation in 2021. Locking him up for two more seasons alongside Desclafani shows they hope to continue to win in a tough NL West.
