After the Francisco Rodriguez deal left the door open for someone to be called up to replace his roster spot, the Mets wasted no time. Ryota Igarashi has been confirmed to have been called up by David Waldstein. Ryota has basically become a three-pitch respectable reliever – throwing a fastball, curveball, and the occasional change-up. Igarashi’s stats down in AAA were nothing short of great:

In 31.0 IP, Igarashi has a 0.87 ERA and a .774 WHIP. He has finished 13 games and saved 5 games. He has posted a 9.9 K/9 rate and has only allowed 2 HRs. He’s held opposing hitters to a .139 AVG against so one can only hope Igarashi has finally found himself and will have similar success with the Mets.

Here’s to success for the Izzy/Iggy confusion! (Although only one of them is short 7 saves of 300.)
