Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Cincinnati Reds have made it known to teams that they are willing to part ways with the 2021 National League Rookie of the Year, Jonathan India. According to sources, the Reds are open to trade discussions that involve young, controllable starting pitchers in return.

India, the first-round draft pick for the Reds in 2018 out of the University of Florida is batting .251/.338/.411, with a .749 OPS this season. He has 19 doubles, 14 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 68 runs scored. He currently has a 95 OPS+ since the start of the 2022 season.

Over the course of his career, he has batted .258/.351/.421, with a .772 OPS, with 69 doubles and 45 home runs. He has also scored 214 runs over the course of his 2 ½ years in the major leagues.

2021 was a historic year for India as he was named the Baseball America Major League Rookie of the Year, the MLB Players Choice National League Outstanding Rookie, and as mentioned above, the National League Rookie of the Year by Major League Baseball.

The statement by the Reds about India comes just seven days after he had a three-hit night for the Reds against the San Francisco Giants. India has had a little bit of a roller-coaster season, but when he’s on, he has a strong ability to put the ball in play and be a weapon at the plate.

Per Feinsand, the Reds have a full roster of young infielders (Steer, De La Cruz, McClain, Encarnacion-Strand) and have more young prospects in their farm system, including Marte, Arroyo, and Collier.

With more talent coming through the pipeline for Cincinnati, the pitching is their biggest need and a prospect like India would be an attractive buy for many teams. While he would fit the Mets roster, the club might not be willing to part with players such as David PetersonDominic Hamel, or Mike Vasil to bring in India. Plus, the Mets are not currently linked to the Reds’ second baseman.

Feinsand: The Colorado Rockies Trade Right-handed Pitcher Pierce Johnson to the Braves for a Pair of Minor Leaguers

Per Feinsand, The Colorado Rockies also made some noise on Monday. According to sources, they have traded right-handed pitcher Pierce Johnson to the Atlanta Braves for a pair of minor league players.

Johnson, a right-handed relief pitcher, was a 2012  draft pick by the Cubs out of Missouri State. He was selected at No. 43 in the C-A round.

Johnson, this season is 1-5 with a 6.00 ERA. He has given up 47 hits, 28 runs (26 earned runs), walked 25, and struck out 58 batters over the course of 39 innings pitched and 43 games appeared in. He has 13 saves this season as well.

Over the course of his MLB Career from 2017 until now, he is 11-14 with a 4.48 ERA over 183 games. He has given up 93 runs (88 earned) on 163 hits and 92 walks. He has struck out 221 batters in his career.

Bowman: Braves Acquire Taylor Hearn from Rangers

The Braves are in business on Monday. They also announced, per Mark Bowman of MLB.com that they acquired relief pitcher Taylor Hearn from the Texas Rangers. Per Bowman, Hearn is a player who has options and the Braves have been limited by their lack of optionable relief pitchers in the bullpen this season.

Hearn has had a notably rough season. He had wins, losses, or saves, and a 10.29 ERA in four games appeared in. He has seven strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.86 over the course of just seven innings pitched for the Rangers in 2023. He has spent the majority of the 2023 season in Round Rock with the Round Rock Express, Texas’ Triple-A affiliate.

With Triple-A Round Rock in 2023, Hearn is 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA. He has given up 19 runs (16 earned runs) on 35 hits and 24 walked batters. He has 54 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.50 in Triple-A, plus was designated for assignment by the Rangers on July 19.
