The Tuesday before Thanksgiving hasn’t been incredibly active on the rumor mill as the hot stove is being reserved for turkeys and pie.

But there’s been some action!

  • Kyle Gibson has signed a one-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, who reunited with Lance Lynn on Monday. Gibson’s contract has an option for 2025, according to Bob Nightengale. The 36-year-old was a quality back-end starter for the Baltimore Orioles in 2023, eating up 192 innings with a 4.73 ERA (4.13 FIP).
  • The Yankees have signed Brad Ausmus to be their bench coach, according to Joel Sherman, replacing new Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. Ausmus has had a bit of a tumultuous post-playing career, managing the Tigers for four seasons and the Angels for one. He was the bench coach for the A’s in 2022. He’ll return to a similar role now with the Yankees for the 2024 season.
  • Update: Paul DeJong is nearing a major-league deal with the Chicago White Sox, according to Jon Heyman.

The Thanksgiving week typically marks a slower period for free agency, which has been slower than usual up to this point. (The 2021 offseason leading up to the lockout was an exception.) Shohei Ohtani‘s secret free agent meetings and Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s posting could be clogging up other action as those play out.

But the Winter Meetings take place in two weeks—from December 4-7—and those will create a stir of rumors, trades, and signings.

We’ll keep this thread updated the rest of the day with any new rumors!
