Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic writes that the Mets are ready to listen to trade offers for any of their players.
“The Mets are ready to entertain trade offers for virtually everyone on their roster, according to sources,” Rosenthal writes. “But prefer to keep their best, controllable players — outfielders Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto, right-handers Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman and yes, staff ace Jacob deGrom.”
Eight games under .500 in the middle of June, it makes sense to at least begin listening to offers. But keep in mind this news does not mean the Mets will put on a tag sale any time soon.
That leaves the following players prone to trade (in no particular order): Jeurys Familia, Anthony Swarzak, Jerry Blevins, Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Asdrubal Cabrera, Jose Reyes, Jose Bautista, Yoenis Cespedes, Devin Mesoraco, and I hate to say it but it’s probably true, Wilmer Flores.
Again, this does not mean the Mets will definitely be sellers at the deadline. This is Sandy dipping his toe in the water, getting a feel for what the market will be like in July. With the Mets picking up some steam the last two days, it’s possible they go on a run. The decision to buy or sell at the deadline won’t be made until mid-July at the earliest, especially considering the Mets are just seven games out of a Wild Card spot despite their recent poor play.
