Well, not only is Amed Rosario the best defensive shortstop in the Eastern League, but Baseball America just named him the best defensive shortstop in the Florida State League as well.
The fact is that being the best defensive shortstop in the Florida State League is just scratching the surface, as Rosario was also rated as the league’s best hitter and the most exiting player.
Rosario began the year in the Florida State League before getting promoted to Double-A Binghamton. In his 66 games for St. Lucie, Rosario hit .309/.359/.442 with 27 runs, 10 doubles, eight triples, three homers, 40 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. In the field, he had a .962 fielding percentage.
Rosario, who was reportedly coveted by many teams the Mets dealt with before the trade deadline, was also named to the Florida State League All Star Game, and was selected to play for the World Team in the 2016 Futures Game.
And by the way, GM Sandy Alderson doesn’t really believe in untouchable players, but he made it pretty clear last month that Rosario is as close to untouchable as one could get.
Rosario was not the only Mets farmhand named to Baseball America’s Best Tools List for the Florida State League. He was joined by Luis Guillorme (best defensive second baseman) and Luis Rojas (manager).
Lefty P.J. Conlon was the only Columbia Fireflies player mentioned in the best of for the South Atlantic League. He was voted on as having the best changeup in the Sally League.
At the major league level, Noah Syndergaard had the top ranked fastball in the National League with Jeurys Familia ranking third. Familia was also rated as the NL’s best reliever. Finally, Yoenis Cespedes‘ cannon was ranked the second best outfield arm in the National League.
Rosario returned to the B-Mets lineup last night after missing time with a hamstring injury, he went 3 for 5 and scored two runs. For the full recap of last night’s action head over to MetsMinors.net.
