The New York Mets have optioned right-handed reliever Hansel Robles and catcher Tomas Nido to minor league camp according to Tim Healey of Newsday. Both players are expected to start the season in Triple-A for the Las Vegas 51s.
Robles, 27, struggled mightily this spring with a 9.26 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 11.2 innings. During that span, he allowed 12 earned runs on 17 hits, four walks and struck out 12.
Robles is coming off a 2017 season in which he had his worst year in the majors with career-high 4.92 ERA and 5.13 FIP.
Nido, our No. 9 Mets prospect, asserted himself well this spring with a .300/.364/.500 slash line in 20 at-bats. The strong defensive catcher had a rough offesnive season last year in Double-A with a .641 OPS in 102 games.
The Mets roster is now down to 32 players.
