As per Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports, New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano is “hoping” to return from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, but it appears nothing is imminent at the moment.

Cano, 36, has been sidelined since May 23 with a left quad strain. Since coming to the Mets in the trade that also nabbed Edwin Diaz from Seattle in exchange for Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak, Gerson Bautista, Jarred Kelenic, and Justin Dunn, the 14-year MLB veteran has struggled.

Cano is slashing .241/.287/.371 with a .284 wOBA, 78 wRC+, and 19.9% strikeout rate — well above his 12.5% career mark.

After a slow start, the Dominican native hit .360/.407/.540 over 54 plate appearances between April 12 and April 28, when he was hit on the hand by a pitch, causing him to miss two games.

Since then (May 1 through May 22), Cano’s slashing .200/.233/.286 with 14 strikeouts in 73 plate appearances.
