The Mets non-tendered right-handed pitchers Robert Gsellman, Stephen Nogosek, and outfielder Mark Payton.

MLB’s non-tender deadline was set for Tuesday at 8 p.m. The Mets needed to make three moves to open up space on their 40-man roster.

Players eligible to be non-tendered are those on the 40-man roster with fewer than six years of service time. Players that are non-tendered immediately become free agents.

Gsellman, 28, was the fourth-longest tenured member of the Mets. The right-handed reliever made his Mets debut n 2016, going 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA across seven games started. Gsellman transferred into a reliever role in 2018 and has remained in the pen since. This season he had a 3.77 ERA in 17 appearances. His season ended short with a lat injury that shut him down on June 20.

Nogosek, 26, made eight career pitching appearances for the Mets between 2019 and 2021. Nogosek pitched once in 2021, going three innings, allowing two runs, and striking out five. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in 2016, the Mets traded Addison Reed for him, Gerson Bautista, and Jamie Callahan in 2017.

Payton, 29, had his contract purchased by the Mets from the Reds this summer.

The Mets now have the roster spots open to complete the signings of Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, Starling Marte, and Max Scherzer.
