According to Tim Britton the The Athletic, New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Tylor Megill has been promoted from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Syracuse.

Megill, MMO’s 28th best prospect, has gotten his 2021 season off to a tremendous start for the Rumble Ponies. Over his first five starts, the right is 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts over 26 innings pitched.

He has also recorded a mark of 14.5 K/9 innings, and has a 40.4% strikeout rate, which is currently the highest in the organization. Megill uses a ton of spin on his fastball, and his hard slider to help rack up the strikeouts.

Megill, 24, was selected in the eighth round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Arizona. He spent the 2018 season with the Brooklyn Cyclones, posting a 3.21 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 28 innings pitched.

In 2019, he spent some time with the Columbia Fireflies, St. Lucie Mets, and then finished up by making his final start of the year with the Rumble Ponies. Across all three levels, he posted a 3.52 ERA and struck out 92 batters over 71 innings of work.

Megill received an invite to big league camp this season, but he appeared in just one game, striking out one and walking one in a scoreless effort. Megill has been very impressive this season, and is definitely a guy Mets fans should keep an eye on moving forward.

Mets Vice President of amateur and international scouting Tommy Tanous recently told MMO’s own Jack Ramsey that he thinks Megill is one of the more underrated prospects in the organization.

In additional Mets Minor league news, according to MiLB.com’s Sam Dykstra, right-handed pitcher J.T. Ginn and center fielder Alexander Ramirez have been added to the St. Lucie Mets roster to make their pro debuts.

Ginn, the Mets’ second round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, was activated from the injured list following his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Many regard him as one of the top pitching prospects in the organization, and he is MMO’s seventh best prospect, he’ll make his debut on Thursday night.

Ramirez, whom the Mets signed as an international free-agent in 2019, currently ranks as MMO’s fifth best prospect in the system. He is an 18-year old outfielder who has the upside and potential to be an above average five tool player.
