It’s been well documented on Twitter, the comment section of MMO, and practically everywhere else how eager the fans are to see first base prospect Peter Alonso in Queens.

So far, the front office has been reluctant to promote him, and whether they not they do this season remains to be seen.

“We’ll have to make a decision as to whether there’s a call-up,” co-general manager John Ricco said. “There are a lot of factors involved.”

This includes playing time, and “what’s best for him,” according to Tim Healey of Newsday.

Alonso, who is ranked the Mets No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline and No. 4 by MMO/Mets Minors, has done about all he’s could to prove he’s a major leaguer this season.

He appeared in the MLB Futures’ Game last month, he has launched 30 homers and driven in 107 runs while taking 70 walks across 119 games and two minor league levels this year, and has recently been working to prove he’s sound defensively.

When asked if the team would reward him based on his strong season, Ricco said, “[It’s] something we’d consider.”

As Alonso continues to torment minor league pitchers, Wilmer Flores and Jose Bautista have primarily manned first base.

Brandon Nimmo was recently placed on the disabled list and Dominic Smith recalled, but it seems as though Flores will still get the most reps at the position.

The MLB rosters can expand to 40 players on Sept. 1. so we will likely just have to wait until then to see if he is in fact rewarded for his stellar season.
