The dastardly duo atop the Mets order continued their success Friday night as the team cruised by the Twins with a 3-0 victory.
With a scoreless game at hand entering the bottom of the third inning, Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera went to work, hitting back-to-back jacks to put the Mets up for good. It’s the 11th time this season the Mets have gone back-to-back and the first time since August 26 vs. Philadelphia when the same duo did it.
The 11 instances of back-to-back homers are the second most in franchise history for a single-season.The 2000 Mets hold the top spot with 13 occurrences. Cabrera noticeably could be seen admiring his blast that was crushed over the right-field wall of Citi Field.

Reyes, whose homer was his seventh of the season, has been an absolute bright spot for this team. He is batting .295 with six doubles, one triple, four home runs, eight RBI, 26 runs scored and 13 walks in 31 games since returning from the Disabled List.
Overall on the season he has hit to a .276/.332/.464 slash to go along with the seven homers and 16 RBI. He also helped to produce 35 runs in 2016. Not too bad for a “washed up” player.
Cabrera on the other hand hit his 20th homer of the night Friday, his 19th while playing shortstop. The 19 homers as a shortstop are tied for the most in a single-season in franchise history with who else but Reyes himself who completed the feat in 2006. Since coming off the Disabled List, Cabrera is batting .370 with nine doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 16 RBI in 26 games.
Cabrera departed the game prior to the ninth inning due to a leg cramp for precautionary reasons. It is not thought to be anything serious at this time.
The Mets would also pick up a game on the Cardinals Friday night as the Giants soundly defeated them by a score of 8-2. The Mets now have a two game lead over the Cards for the second Wild Card spot and trail the Giants by one game for the top spot.
